Why I did a 30 day juice cleanse.

Back in 2010, I moved to a small town called Redding. I was living in Southern, California for my entire life, and I jumped into the Northern, California living pretty quickly! My body took a hit. I started to have a lot of environmental allergic reactions which led to puffy eyes, swollen eyes, itchy eyes, red eyes, and literally skin irritation after another. It was a very discouraging season. I didn’t want to do a lot of things because of how I felt. Someone I knew have told me about a documentary called, “fat, sick, and nearly dead”, and I decided to watch it. This guy was diagnosed with various different things throughout his body. You can say he was barely making it! After he completed a 30 day juice cleanse, his body healed itself! I walked away very encouraged to say the least. The next day after watching the documentary, three different points of the day someone mentioned this exact documentary to me. What?! (I didn’t tell anyone I just watched this.) This was a documentary I’ve never knew existed. How was it that the very next day after watching it, three people mentioned it to me.

At that point, I felt like I was suppose to do it. I knew it was going to be hard and rewarding at the same time. But, I was determined. I just knew I had to do it. So, for 30 days I started my journey only drinking juice and water. I have to say, the first two weeks were DIFFICULT. I lived in a house full with girls that supported me, and they were one reason why I was able to complete it. After time passed, the journey of only drinking water and juice got easier. I had the most energy I’ve ever had, I’ve lost weight, my skin cleared, and my allergies left! On day 30, when I drank my last juice, I realized how powerful real food can benefit the human body. That’s when my passion with real food really begun. Ever since 2010 when I did the juice cleanse, I’ve never had those symptoms again. Sure, I have subtle allergies still. However, it was nothing like it use to be!

Now, I don’t go recommending a 30 day cleanse just for anyone! If you are diagnosed with something in your body, first talk with your primary care doctor. In the mean time, focus on the basics: your water intake, how much sleep you’re getting, and eating real food. Give that a month. If that hasn’t worked for you, and your doctor approved a juice cleanse- do it! It doesn’t have to be an intense 30 days cleanse like I did. Start small. Maybe try 2-3 days, or a week even.

I was in a very different season then I am now. Today I am a wife and mama, and I wouldn’t have the energy to complete a 30 day juice cleanse. At that time, I was only attending school full time. I also focused on low key activities, so I can rest my body during that season. if you’re looking to do this, I’d suggest to be smart with it and to listen to your body each day. I ultimately shared this story not to promote a 30 day cleanse, but to encourage you that REAL food nourishes your body. I’ve experienced it first hand. 

This was my first and only cleanse I’ve done. But it changed my life and perspective forever.
